The Sum

Joyous laughter mixed with tears,
this is the sum of all my years.
Words have trampled on my soul,
those same words have made me whole.
Actions that have crushed my heart
became the paint of my life’s art.
All that life can throw at me
can only hurt if I’m not free.
But there’s a catch; a key and lock
that keeps me shackled to life’s dock.
In judgement I will always be
without the key to set me free.
Or one day will I cast off fear
and feel the love I know is near?
