Our Nature

Fueled by the fire of insatiable greed
I see in their eyes unquenchable need
built on expectations that cannot be met
and rules all unwritten but so firmly set
that we’ll all clamber to dizzying heights
to consume ever more – as are our rights.
A rush to extinction – no desire to swerve;
as the master species it’s what we deserve.
So try as we might to live within means
that’s not the way that our nature leans.
This greed is is inherent to what we’ve become;
it’s clear that to take is our nature’s sum.
I know we can change but the key’s burried deep
and first we must learn to laugh as we weep.

About a foolhardy florilegium

Nullius addictus iurare in verba magistri, quo me cumque rapit tempestas, deferor hospes.
