Muzak

“Blood and dust” so said the song;
I tapped my foot and sang along.
Until I thought just what it meant;
the pain that was where those words went.
The meaning that was hid behind
that simple tune were so unkind.
They spoke of blood and pain and war;
and we all clapped and asked for more.
How many tunes; the background clatter,
speak speak much more than idle chatter.
But do we simply listen or really hear;
the pain they bring – the hate and fear.
These are the tunes I hear each day;
we need to find another way!
