Verily we honour them

Verily we honour them, those strong men from our past.
Verily we honour them, long shadows they have cast.
And they deserve our honour for they fought hard and long;
they fought for brotherhood and to keep our nation strong.
But what about the children, the women and the land
trampled into dust out on their battlefields so grand.
The raping and the pillaging, the scars left on their souls;
simple stepping stones to some megalomaniacs goals.
So as we honour those who fought to keep our country free
Let it be the blood of the innocent that our eyes do see.

About a foolhardy florilegium

Nullius addictus iurare in verba magistri, quo me cumque rapit tempestas, deferor hospes.
