“But it’s the law” he bellowed “a line we must not cross”
and his religious dedication left me at a loss.
For many things are legal, but does that make them right?
And if there are unjust laws, should we not stand and fight?
For slavery was legal once but that we now oppose
Injustice is only legal till opposition grows;
Laws are made by and for the State, and not the status quo;
they’re a tool of State repression to aid their power’s flow.
Apartheid is another “law” that I will not obey
nor any law designed to on my fellow mankind prey.
Our laws are made for power, not for me and you
but laws aren’t change by power; they’re changed by what we do.
This doesn’t mean all laws are wrong they help us live in peace
but still we must be vigilant to make unjust laws cease.
I do not obey religion, though that’s the “law” of god
for all of them teach doctrine that’s evil, not just odd.
So though I will live lawfully I’ll not blindly obey
and if your laws not justice then I will have my say.
For true law comes from in us, not from some bloody book
Written by some religious zealot or politician crook.
