Fraternity

You can find it on the beaches and in the forest too,
that simple thing that changes the lives of me and you.
It lurks down in the alleys and on the railway rides,
where ever folk may gather – it’s there that it abides.
you see it when you’re lonely, you’ll see it in a crowd,
sometimes it passes quietly but uther times it’s loud.
Though you may ignore it; pretend that you don’t see
it still abides in all of us – strangers, you and me.
But if you hold your hand out and open up your heart,
it’s then that it will enter you; a whole new world to start.
It’s not some magic “spirit” that comes from high above;
it’s just a sense of friendship, fraternity and love.
so if you see a stranger passing, don’t avert your eye
for that could be the very one who helps your spirit fly.
It’s simple understanding that takes away all fear;
so put aside your prejudice and hold a stranger near.

About a foolhardy florilegium

Nullius addictus iurare in verba magistri, quo me cumque rapit tempestas, deferor hospes.
