Musings on my past

Where is the passion of days gone by,
the freedom to wander under clear blue sky?
The stand against all we found wrong,
when the rhythm of life was beauty’s song?
The simple days when it all made sense
and all around there was no fence
to contain my mind and constrain my heart.
The straight line fences that hold no art.
Is this the way life’s meant to be;
a world of boundaries with no one free?
Is this what we stood for? Was this our goal?
A world with no hope, a world without soul?
As my mind wanders back to days gone by
I often ask myself, the question “Why?”
Why did we bother; what was it for?
We live in a world still filled with war.
No longer’s Big Brother hid by a veil,
but rather he revels where freedoms fail.
And the generation that had “The Great Plan”
now the worst consumers; woman and man.
As we sold our kids; forty pieces of gold;
prestige and possessions we cannot hold.
We were the ones who knew it all.
We were ‘The Changers”; we’d heard the call.
Now greed and corruption fill our wake;
cool words of the past replaced by “take.”
All that we’ve left for our kids and theirs
is a world full of hatred, worries and cares.
“How did it happen? What went so wrong?”
could be the theme of many balladeers song.
But what does it matter; all life is a game.
We took on the devil and grew up the same!

About a foolhardy florilegium

Nullius addictus iurare in verba magistri, quo me cumque rapit tempestas, deferor hospes.
