The Piper

There are those who’ve lived life pure as driven snow.
I’ve never had a life like that; mine’s full of ebb and flow.
I’ve been a lot of people; even some that were quite good.
Some of them I’d best forget; others relive if I could.
But 20/20 hindsight didn’t help me find my way,
to be the person who I find sitting here today.
It was done by trial and error (and a bloody lot of those)
and I’m sure there’ll be more stuff-ups before my final close.
But while 20/20 hindsight didn’t help me in the past,
I know that it will guide me now (‘cos bad memories do last).
While some past’s have a sweeter taste, some are bitter too,
and sweet and bitter I know well; my life’s had quite a few.
From here on out it’s yet to come; where will is final day?
What debt or bonus will I earn before the Piper I do pay?

About a foolhardy florilegium

Nullius addictus iurare in verba magistri, quo me cumque rapit tempestas, deferor hospes.
