I stand before my Forefathers; my story still untold.
I know that there are many things from their time I uphold.
But other things I do reject and wish could be undone;
the sins that they committed when ‘Australia’ had just begun.
The crimes against the Spirit and genocide well planned,
when they came, and saw, and conquered the first people of this land.
Deep in their hearts they must have known that what they did was wrong;
the murder, rape, and pillage destroyed a Nation’s song.
But somehow, through the suffering, the First Ones kept it strong;
perhaps because to the land, their Spirits still belong.
And so I stand before them, with words l hope can heal;
to simply say “I’m sorry” in my heart that’s what I feel.
Hello cruel world, I’m here to join this circus.
