Why Are We Here

“Why are we here?” I wonder as I watch another war;
all this death and destruction as we talk about some ‘law’.
“The International Law” we say “we must protect what’s right;
this international law that says we must forever fight.
A world that fills its every day with destruction ever wide,
with weapons that can hunt and kill; from them no one can hide.
“My way’s the way, I’m always right”, the new droning song
of those who think nobody else has the right to belong.
A world built on intolerance, where war snaps at our heel,
I fear that there is little chance of the peace we need to feel.
