Words

“Why are we there?” I wonder as I watch another war;

all this death and destruction as we talk about some ‘law’.

“The International Law” we say “we must protect what’s right;

this international law that says we must forever fight.

A world that fills its every day with destruction ever wide,

with weapons that can seek and kill; from us no one can hide.

“My way’s the way, I’m always right”, is the new chant and song

of those who think nobody else has the right to belong.

A world built on intolerance, where war runs at our heel,

I feel there is so little chance of the peace we need to feel.
