My Enemies

My enemies; the ones I hate

are here and now – they’re at the gate!

So who are they, these foes of mine;

when I look out I see no sign.

But important people say they’re there;

perhaps they see them everywhere.

Could it be that they’re not real?

Is it just fear that we all feel?

Fear of the darkness we all know

is just a place where children go.

When they don’t understand what’s near

their young minds can turn to fear.

But grownup people, one would hope

would know ’bout fear and how to cope.

So why do they tilt at windmills still;

I know of fear – I’ve had my fill!

And while a war might seem of use

it just gives fear one more excuse

to hide the pain that’s at its core

and not lose fear but just build more.

So let’s get real folks; wars don’t win.

Let’s build some peace; time to begin!
